LATIN AMERICA IS DOWN TO ITS LAST PANDA

As the last panda in Latin America, Xin Xin, is not your typical bear.

A native of Mexico, she’s the only surviving member of a diaspora.

They are descendants of the gigantic pandas that China sent as gifts to other nations in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

Now in menopause and at 32-years old, a very old panda, Xin Xin is the end of the line.

Currently, China only lends pandas to other countries for a cost of $1 million annually.

Mexico’s government is in discussions about a new panda, but given its emphasis on austerity, it might object to the cost.

It might mark the end of pandas in Latin America after more than 50 years.
