John Tory looks to score with the city’s soccer fans.

The mayor has worked with city staff to ensure the extension of alcohol and services hours is dealt with at the city council meeting November 24.

FIFA’s World Cup Qatar takes place November 20-December 18.

The time difference means early games starting at 8 a.m.

Under the Liquor License Act, the city can pass a by-law extending the hours of sale in all or part of the City by holders of licenses.

Tory says there were no issues when hours were extended during past World Cup tournaments.

”We are happy to help our restaurants and bars,” adds the mayor.

”I hope this extra hour of alcohol service will help establishments planning to show the 8AM games.

I encourage residents to visit their favourite restaurants and bars to watch the World Cup and support our local businesses.”

Canada’s first game is versus Belgium on November 23 at 2 p.m. Toronto time.
