Russia’s withdrawal from a large portion of Kherson in southern Ukraine is a good sign for the latter, but military analysts warn there could well be a lot more bloodshed in the region.

Russia confirmed its forces began to withdraw from the western bank of the Dnieper River that bisects the Kherson region. Meanwhile, Ukraine says its armed forces had already advanced 7 kilometres and liberated 12 settlements in the region over the past three days.

Ukraine’s government remains skeptical of Russia’s withdrawal, although its forces on the ground appeared to be exploiting the opportunity to target large groups of Russian troops preparing to withdraw.

Britain’s Ministry of Defense agrees that the withdrawal is likely to be very difficult, with Ukrainian forces that are trying to reoccupy and liberate the Russian-occupied part of Kherson also facing dangers in that endeavour.
