The mayor of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, is advising citizens to be ready for the worst this coming winter if Russia continues to attack the nation’s energy infrastructure.

That means, according to Vitali Klitschko, that it is possible that some locals may not have access to heat, water, or electricity.

The public needs to be ready, he added, but noted that Ukrainian personnel are doing everything they can to restore services.

Sunday saw the start of rotating blackouts in Kyiv and the surrounding areas.

Russian forces were also ratcheting up their attacks in the hotly disputed Donetsk province in the east.

The power plants that supply Bakhmut and the neighbouring town of Soledar have reportedly been almost completely destroyed by the strikes, according to the region’s governor.
