As another interest rate hike looms tomorrow, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre grilled Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during a spirited Question Period.

Meantime, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland is emphasizing the Bank of Canada’s independence after criticism from Jagmeet Singh.

The NDP sent a letter to the Prime Minister  warning that another rate hike will have a “serious impact on families” as fears of a recession grow.

Freeland acknowledges the economic pain Canadians are feeling but says the Bank’s independence plays an important role to ensure stability during challenging economic times.

The central bank is expected to raise its key interest rate tomorrow by possibly as much as three quarters of a percentage point.
