Not only is she a violin virtuoso, she is now the first woman conductor in the 75-year history of the Edinburgh International Festival.

Not only that Nicola Benedetti is the first Scot to told the position.

She was born in Ayrshire, Scotland 35 years ago and has spent her life at the pinnacle of British classical music.

She led the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain at age eight, studied at the Yehudi Menuhin school for young musicians under the maestro himself at age ten and at 16 won the BBC Young Musician of the Year Award.

Benedetti is convinced that she can put long, complex and subtle material in front of a mass audience and ensure everyone will love it. And, she has pledged that Scottish shows and stories will be at the heart of her tenure, which begins this month.
