VETERAN DJ ART LEBOE DIES AT 97

The veteran American Disc Jockey, who is credited with coining the phrase “Oldies but Goodies” has died in California.

Art Laboe is described as a pioneering radio DJ who is also credited with helping end segregation in Southern California. Laboe would organize live DJ shows that attracted white, Black and Latino listeners who danced to rock-n-roll.

He released a compilation album called “Oldies But Goodies: Vol. 1,” in 1958. The album stayed on Billboard’s Top 100 chart for 183 weeks.

Art Laboe has died of complications from pneumonia at his home in Palm Springs, California.

He was 97.
