Hockey Canada CEO Scott Smith resigned his position this morning, along with the entire board of directors.

Despite widespread calls for a change in leadership… Smith and the board insisted they would be best to make necessary changes within the national organization.

However, Smith and the board found themselves completely isolated… not only with public opinion, but with a mass exodus of major corporate sponsors… the latest being Bauer, which earlier today announced they too were pausing ties with Hockey Canada.

Former Conservative Deputy Prime Minister Lisa Raitt was part of today’s panel on Fight Back With Libby Znaimer, and said she’s not surprised the entire board resigned along with Smith and that the problem has been there for a long time.

In a statement announcing the leadership team changes, Hockey Canada said that an “interim management committee will be put in place” to guide the organization until the next slate of directors appoints a new CEO.

Interim board chair Andrea Skinner announced her resignation over the weekend.

For months, federal politicians have been examining Hockey Canada’s handling of alleged sexual assaults and lawsuit pay-outs, with all parties calling for a change to senior leadership.
