Francois Legault will be heading back to Quebec’s Legislature with an even stronger majority, after a resounding election victory which saw his Coalition Avenir Quebec win the most seats of any party in more than 30 years.
Legault’s CAQ appears to have captured 90 seats.
The Quebec Liberals form the opposition once again, this time with 21 seats.
Legault frequently campaigned on protecting the french language, but spoke directly to English speaking Quebecers in his victory speech.
“When I say that Quebecers form a great nation, I mean all Quebecers, from all regions, of all ages, of all origins” Legault told supporters, “I’m going to be the premier of all Quebecers.”
Francois Legault and his CAQ were declared winners less than 15 minutes after voting ended.
