Thanks in part to generous Zoomer Radio listeners, Jane Brown and her team have raised $16,000 for the 2022 Bladder Cancer Canada Walk! That’s an all time high for the annual event!

Jane has been an advocate with Bladder Cancer Canada since 2015 in memory of her Mom, Sandy, who died of metastasized bladder cancer in 2012.

This is the eighth straight year Jane’s team has participated in the walk raising a total of $78,000.

But this year was special, since the event on Saturday September 24th was back to in-person for the first time since 2019.

Hundreds of people in the Bladder Cancer Canada community gathered in Toronto’s Wilket Creek Park near Eglinton and Leslie for a 5K walk on what was a beautiful early Fall morning.

Money raised from the Toronto walk and in communities across the country support bladder cancer patients, raise awareness, and fund innovative research.

Every year, 80,000 people in Canada are diagnosed with bladder cancer, which is the 5th most common cancer in Canada (4th for men, 12th for women).

Blood in the urine is the most common symptom of bladder cancer. Don’t ignore this warning sign. Not even once.

It does not necessarily mean you have bladder cancer. Several conditions can cause blood in your urine (called hematuria). But it’s important to be checked by your doctor as soon as possible to seek treatment from a urologist for what’s causing the blood in the urine and to rule out bladder cancer as the cause.

Just because there is no pain, your condition may still be serious. Although the condition may be a bladder infection or urinary tract infection (UTI), be sure to ask your physician to do some tests to confirm that it is just an infection. If there is any doubt, ask for a referral to a urologist to investigate.

Early detection of bladder cancer is critical to receiving timely and effective treatment. It may save your life!
