The Ontario Medical Association has proposed three solutions to help the province deal with the strain on the healthcare system.
Doctors are urging the government to license more foreign trained doctors, create ambulatory centres to offer day surgeries and finally improve palliative care.
“The OMA recommends the government increase the number of hospice beds and provide consistent funds to operate them, Ontario should have about 945 to 1,350 palliative care beds province wide, however currently, we only have 271 hospice beds in total,” said OMA president Dr. Rose Zacharias.
The group says these recommendations can be now to have widespread impact.
A new report shows the average wait time for patients in Ontario being admitted to hospital from emergency rooms averaged 20.7 hours in July.
