On the eve of “back to school” — it’s Labour Day and the unofficial end of the summer.

It’s the last day for the CNE and the airshow, weather permitting, will get underway at noon.

The Ashkenaz Festival celebrating Jewish culture has returned to Harbourfront Centre and runs today.  The festival includes approximately 50 events at the waterfront and other venues in the city.

Some malls and small retailers are open, and public transit is operating on a holiday schedule.

LCBO stores will be closed as well as government offices and banks.

In Toronto, to accommodate the Labour Day Parade — the following roads are closed until 2:30 p.m. this afternoon:

  • Queen Street West between Bay Street and University Avenue
  • University Avenue between Dundas Street West and Richmond Street West
  • York Street between Queen Street West and Richmond Street West
  • And Armoury Street between University Avenue and Centre Avenue

The CNE closes tonight at 9:00 p.m.
