Medical experts in this province appear to be taken aback by the decision to drop the five day isolation period for people with COVID-19.

Wednesday, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kieran Moore made the announcement, while making it clear that people with fever and other symptoms should not go back to work or school until they have felt well for 24 hours.

But Dr. Michael Warner at Toronto’s Michael Garron hospital says this doesn’t make sense, because there are those people with COVID who will test positive but be symptom free and they should not be at work or school where they can potentially spread the virus.

And Liberal Health Critic Dr. Adil Shamji says, “we might’ve been able to have a discussion about removing isolation requirements if we had a credible plan to increase the supports and protection in our community, but that simply isn’t there.”

In his first COVID update in 50 days, Dr. Kieran Moore advised people should also wear a mask “in any setting” for ten full days from the start of their symptoms, even if they feel better.
