You no long longer have to isolate for five days after a COVID-19 infection according to new guidelines from Ontario’s top doctor as we head into flu season. And Dr. Kieran Moore says this applies to all viruses.
“So the guidance is, stay home if you’re sick, you should not go back to school or work until your symptoms are resolving and improving for at least 24 hours, if you have a fever you should not go back to school or work until that fever has resolved, and to protect others, you should continue to wear a mask even though you’re feeling better, for 10 full days from the start of your symptoms,” Dr. Moore told reporters.
He also announced children aged five-to-eleven are eligible for a COVID-19 booster shots starting Thursday.
With the 7th wave plateauing and the province bracing for more fall cases, Dr. Moore’s message is; stay up to date with your vaccines, stay home when sick and mask when it’s right for you.
“Normally, influenza would start in December or January in a normal period, but in Australia, it started two months earlier so we’ve got good surveillance systems in play in Ontario to detect if influenza is going to start earlier and we’ll certainly communicate that risk to Ontarians.”
Ontario’s fall COVID-19 vaccine program will be announced soon and Canada is expected to approve the new targeted bivalent vaccine that’s just been rubber stamped in the U-S. Those who are ill are being asked to avoid visiting vulnerable settings.
