Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross have a duty to react after an attack on a prison complex killed dozens of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
Zelenskyy called it “a deliberate mass murder.”
The International Committee of the Red Cross says it has requested access to the prison “to determine the health and condition of all the people present on-site at the time of the attack.”
Meantime, Ukraine is stepping up its operations to recapture occupied territory as Russian forces continue attempts to advance in the east.
Ukraine is also working on resuming the export of grain, a week after a deal was struck to allow critical food supplies to flow to millions of impoverished people facing hunger worldwide.
Ukraine is a key global exporter of wheat, barley, corn and sunflower oil, and their loss has raised global food prices, threatened political instability and helped push more people into poverty and hunger in already vulnerable countries.
