A Nobel Peace Prize winner is selling his medal to benefit Ukrainian children.
Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov won the Nobel Peace prize last year for his work on an independent newspaper critical of the Putin regime.
The Kremlin shut it down in March when he and others spoke out against the Russian invasion in Ukraine. Muratov had already donated the half million reward that comes with the Nobel Peace prize but now he’s donating the actual medal with the proceeds going to Unicef’s fund for Ukrainian children.
As of early Monday, the bid was $550,000.
In an interview, Muratov said he was particularly concerned about children who have been orphaned because of the conflict in Ukraine.
