Ottawa is making more moves to ban plastics.
Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault has announced that Ottawa will ban companies from importing or making plastic bags and Styrofoam takeout containers by the end of this year. It also effects single-use plastic straws, stir sticks, cutlery and six-pack rings used to hold cans and bottles together.
The government is targeting 2030 to eliminate all plastic waste from ending up in landfills or as litter on beaches, in rivers, wetlands and forests.
Guilbeault says the federal government is “all-in when it comes to reducing plastic.”
