If you grew up in North America, you will certainly regnize this…

The baby’s face on the bottle of Gerber Baby Food was actually that of Ann Turner Cook.

She was just five months old in 1927 when a neighbour drew a charcoal sketch of her that was later submitted for a contest Gerber was holding for a national marketing campaign for baby food.

The image was a hit and became the company’s trademark in 1931 and continues to this day.

For decades, the baby’s actual identity was kept secret which spurred rumours that is was Humphrey Bogart or Elizabeth Taylor.  Once her identify was revealed in the late 1990’s, Cook said “If you’re going to be a symbol for something, what could be more pleasant than a symbol for baby food?”

Cook, grew up to be an English teacher in Tampa, Florida and later a writer of mystery novels.

Gerber confirms Ann Turner Cook has died at the age of 95, but provided no other details.
