Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly says Canada’s support for Ukraine is more resolute than ever.
As Ukraine marked 100 days since Russia opened war on its neighbour, Joly says that Ukraine’s brave defence against Russian invaders since February has been inspiring.
She says Canada is preparing not only more military support for Ukraine and sending more soldiers to Latvia, but also further tranches of strong sanctions against Vladimir Putin’s regime.
It is also working on a diplomatic solution to enable Ukraine to ship its grain out of the blocked port of Odesa.
Meantime in Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said they are losing 60 to 100 soldiers each day in combat.
That’s just short of 50 American soldiers who died per day on average in 1968, during the Vietnam War’s deadliest year for U.S. forces.
Concentrations of Russian artillery are causing many of the casualties in the eastern regions that Moscow has focused on since its invading troops failed to take Keev early in the war.
