Zoomer of a certain vintage will remember “Wind of Change” from 1990 as the German band Scorpions sang “I follow the Moscow (River), Down to Gorky Park, Listening to the Wind of Change.”
Now comes word, that the band has revised the lyrics, because they no longer want to romanticize anything Russian.
Singer Klaus Meine , who is now 74, says he wrote the original lyrics a month after Scorpions played the Moscow Music Peace festival in 1989. But, he says with Russia’s war in Ukraine, that’s not anything he can image anymore.
The new lyrics are, “Now listen to my heart, It says Ukrainia, Waiting for the wind to change.”
Scorpions are currently on tour in the United States.
