Ukraine’s president is setting out a condition for a return to negotiations with Russian diplomats to end Vladmir Putin’s war in his country.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday, Russia must pull back to its pre-war positions as a first step – a negotiating line that Putin is highly unlikely to agree to anytime soon.

Through an interpreter, Zelenskyy also told attendees at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland via video link, Ukraine’s goal is to regain all of its lost territory.

Zelenskyy said he currently sees no willingness on the part of Russia to resume earnest negotiations on ending the three-months war.

A regional governor in eastern Ukraine says at least six civilians have been killed by the latest Russian shelling in a town at the epicentre of the fighting.

Luhansk region’s governor accused the Russian troops of deliberately targeting shelters where civilians were hiding.
