David Cronenberg’s latest film caused some audience members to walk out in the first five minutes as “Crimes of the Future” made its debut at Cannes.
The film stars Viggo Mortensen and Léa Seydoux as performance artists who grow and remove organs onstage before a live audience. Needless to say it contains a number of gory scenes.
The 79-year Toronto film director says he was expecting the walkouts. But reports also indicate that those who stayed for the entire film gave it a six minute standing ovation after the credits rolled.
Cronenberg is known for working the horror genre, having created films like “Dead Ringers” and Scanners.”
