Good chance you, or someone in the family, suffer from back pain.
A study conducted by researchers at McGill University and others from Italy, suggests blocking inflammation after injury might actually make the pain chronic, which goes against the standard approach to treatment.
This study found a type of white blood cell, that helps the body fight infection and dominates the early stages of inflammation, plays an important role in resolving pain.
Researchers tested on mice and confirmed that blocking inflammation using drugs relieved them of short-term pain, but prolonged relieving it, turning into something more chronic.
The findings have not yet been tested on humans in a clinical trial, until they are experts say to take an anti-inflammatory, such as ibuprofen, naproxen or diclofenac to be able to function.
The study is published in Science Translational Medicine.
