A survey by Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which represents over 17,000 hospital workers, found nearly all its members (96%) back their bargaining committee’s decision to reject an offer from the OHA over the weekend, that would’ve resulted in wage cuts when accounting for inflation.
The survey also shows half (50%) would leave and seek employment outside Ontario hospitals in pursuit of higher pay, if a contract would have adhered to the provincial restraint legislation, formally known as Bill 124.
Asked how they might vote in next month’s election, 85% indicated they’d vote for change, while 6% said they would vote to re-elect the Tories.
”Hospital workers learned this week that the OHA is more interested in looking good than doing good, just like Doug Ford,” said SEIU Healthcare President Sharleen Stewart.
