Disappointment is the reaction from the victims’ family members after 21-year-old Brady Robertson of Caledon was sentenced to 17-years in jail; minus nearly 3-years in credit for time already served awaiting trial, for a crash that killed a mother and her three young daughters.
37-year-old Karolina Ciasullo, 6-year-old Klara, 3-year-old Lilianna and 1-year-old Mila died in the crash in Brampton in June 2020.
Relatives reacted to the sentence outside the courthouse.
”I am beyond disgusted with a justice system, that someone who takes away four lives gets so little time,” said Karolina’s sister, Anna Martin.
”Our whole family is devastated.  We will never recover from this.  My only hope is that our kids can.”
Sister-in-law Connie Ciasullo says even though the sentence was ”precedent setting,” it’s ”still a slap in the face” to the victims.
The family is calling on government to come up with tougher laws related to dangerous and impaired driving.
Robertson had 8 times the legal limit of THC in his blood and an unknown quantity of a sedative.
He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death, but also pleaded not guilty to impaired driving causing death.
His lawyers mounted a constitutional challenge to the THC limits, which the judge had earlier dismissed.
Robertson will be eligible for parole after he’s served on third of his sentence.
A 20-year driving ban will take effect once’s he’s out of custody.
