Ontario’s top doctor says COVID-19 indicators are heading in the right direction and predicts a “calm summer” but he’s concerned about two new subvariants.
Dr. Kieran Moore says the BA.4 and BA.5 OMICONĀ variants are 10% more transmissible than the already highly transmissible BA.2 subvariant that took off in late winter.
But adds that COVID-19 levels in wastewater are declining, as is the test positivity rate, and the number of people hospitalized due to the virus.
Dr Moore also denied requests from Niagara and Windsor Public Health to reinstate mandatory masking in schools.
