She didn’t hit $200 million but she came close.

Andy Warhol’s 1964 silk screen known as “Shot Sage Blue Marilyn,” has sold at auction for $170 million plus a $25 million service charge for a total of $195 million.

It is now the most expensive art work by an American artist ever to sell at auction and has passed the international record of $180 million dollars, paid in 2015, for a painting by Pablo Picasso.

The title “Shot Sage Blue Marilyn,” refers to an incident in which a woman shot at a stack of four Marilyn portraits in Warhol’s studio although the art work sold last night wasn’t struck by a bullet.

Monroe died in 1962 at the age of 36.
