LEVAR BURTON TO RECEIVE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

LeVar Burton will receive a lifetime achievement award at this year’s Emmy Awards.

The Roots star and Reading Rainbow host will be honoured at the first annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards in December.

Burton’s acting career began at 17 when he switched career paths from being a practicing priest after questioning the Catholic faith. A few years later at 19, that he landed the coveted role as Kunta Kinte in Roots, the miniseries that aired over multiple nights in January 1977. The performance would land him his very first Emmy nomination in the “Outstanding Lead Actor for a Single Appearance in a Drama or Comedy Series” category.

Over his career, Burton has recieved 12 daytime emmys, a Peabody, Grammy AND multiple N-double-A-CP Image Awards.

The 65-year-old recently won a Webby for his podcast ..called LeVar Burton Reads, and is set to host the this summer’s Scripps National Spelling Bee Finals.
