As many as 150 members of the Canadian Armed Forces are going to be heading to Poland to support Ukrainian refugees who’ve fled the Russian invasion.
During the announcement at CFB Trenton, Defence Minister Anita Anand said only about 100 will be deployed for now, adding the aim of the mission is to ”ensure Ukrainians fleeing the war receive the best support possible.”
”Our Canadian Armed Forces will continue to step up and offer a safe haven and to welcome with open arms the people of Ukraine,” she added.
The defence minister says the troops will help with the care, co-ordination and resettlement of the refugees, including those who will come to Canada.
Over 4.7-million Ukrainians have fled their country since the start of the invasion.
Of those, more than half – nearly 2.7-million – crossed into Poland.
