Ontario’s minimum wage is jumping .50 to $15.50 an hour October first, if the Ford tories win the June election.

“What we’re going to do is announce every April what the minimum wage increase will be for workers in October and it will be based on inflation in Ontario,” said Labour Minister Monte McNaughton.

The Conservatives previously cancelled a wage bump in 2019 but relented last year and increased it by $1.00 to $15.00 per hour.

The New Democrats say they’ll raise the minimum wage to $16.00 in October if elected and bring the wage to $20 dollars per hour in 2026.

And the Liberals are promising a wage increase to $16 per hour by next January.

According to last year’s report by the Ontario Living Wage Network, people living in Toronto need to make at least $22.08 an hour to afford basic items such as food, clothing, shelter, transportation, child care and and medical care.
