Provincial police report 315 people died on Ontario roads last year, an increase of 3% from 2020.
The fatalities were the result of 288 collisions.
The leading cause of these deadly crashes was speeding, which contributed to the loss of 81 lives – 19 more than the previous year.
There were 58 fatalities linked to distracted driving, an increase of 29%, however alcohol and drug-related deaths dropped by almost 50%.
”This is just another reminder, everyone please share the road, drive responsibly, get to your destination responsibily,” says OPP Sgt Kerry Schmidt.
”It doesn’t matter if the roads are dry and the sun is shining, or it’s raining or snowing and the roads are wet and slippery. Please be careful out there.”
