Some of Ontario’s post-secondary institutions are opting to keep mask mandates in place, even after the provincial rules lift.
Mohawk College, Western University and the University of Waterloo have all said they plan to require students wear masks for the rest of the winter term.
That’s in spite of the fact that the provincial government has said mask mandates can be dropped after March 21, citing steady or improving COVID-19 indicators.
The Toronto District School Board, meantime, is asking for permission to extend masking rules and other health measures for schools after they’re lifted across the province.
The board says trustees voted to write the province’s top doctor, the Ministry of Education and Toronto Public Health to ask for more time.
Meanwhile, a trustee for the Toronto Catholic District School Board says they voted to ask the ministry to let them keep mask rules in their schools for two weeks after March break, which begins Monday.
