They were planning to perform a Tchaikovsky night in Wales this month but the Cardiff Philharmonic has dropped music by the Russian composer in favour of a program of Dvorak, Elgar and the legendary John Williams.
In announcing the change, The Cardiff Philharmonic said it would be “inappropriate at this time” to perform the composer’s music after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The orchestra also noted that with a member having family in Ukraine, they’ve become aware that some of Tchaikovsky’s work is deemed offensive to Ukrainians.
The new program will proceed March 18th
