Ukraine’s president says had there been a disaster at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant, it would have been six times worse than the Chornobyl nuclear disaster in 1986.

Volodomyr Zelenskyy said Thursday night it would have been the end of history for Ukraine and Europe and that Russian tank operators knew what they were shooting at, as they directly targeted the station.

Ukrainian firefighters have extinguished the blaze at Europe’s biggest nuclear plant and Russian forces are on site as Vladimir Putin continues his campaign to cripple Ukraine despite global condemnation.

A statement from Ukraine’s state nuclear regulator says no changes in radiation levels have been recorded so far after the Zaporizhzhia plant came under attack and no casualties have been reported.

But the blaze caused worldwide concern.

Canada’s prime minister is condemning the attack on the major nuclear power plant. Justin Trudeau said in a statement, he’s spoken with Zelenskyy about the attack, calling it horrific.

In another development in the war against Ukraine, 47 people are said to have been killed in an attack on Chernihiv, a city of 285,000 people located north of Ukraine’s capitol.

According to the Ukrainian government, 38 men and nine women were killed by Russia’s airstrikes of residential areas. 18 people were injured.

Ukraine is facing its 9th day under a crushing Russian invasion, but like Zelenskyy, many Ukrainians remain defiant.
