Those looking to lead the federal Conservatives have more time to mount their campaigns.

A statement from the Conservative Party of Canada says a new leader will be chosen by September 10th.

Well known Ottawa-area M-P Pierre Poilievre, who has a reputation for fiery performances in the House of Commons, is the only candidate who has stepped forward.

Jean Charest, who was once the leader of the federal Progressive Conservative Party and Liberal premier of Quebec, met behind closed doors and fielded questions from Conservative MPs Wednesday evening, and had said we was waiting to see the rules before making a decision about whether to run for the leadership.

Former Ontario PC leader and now Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown has also not ruled out a run for the next Conservative leader.

Word from the party, candidates will have until April 19th to enter the race.
