Vladimir Putin has launched a war against Ukraine.

The Russian Leader made the announcement in a televised address as Russian troops began launching a wide ranging attack on Ukraine.

Ukraine’s entire air defences have been wiped out in a matter of hours according to Russia’s military.

Civil defense sirens are wailing in Ukraine’s capital and other Ukrainian cities as many people begin to flee.

Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky has declared martial law in a speech to his fellow citizens.

Since that speech an adviser to Ukraine’s president says Russian forces have launched an attack on Ukraine from the north, east and south.

He says the Ukrainian military is “fighting hard” and is “inflicting significant losses to the enemy,” but he’s also reporting civilian and military casualties.

Ukrainian leadership says at least 40 people have been killed in what’s being called a “full-scale war.”

World leaders, including U.S. President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, have decried the start of a long-anticipated invasion with far-reaching consequences, as global financial markets plunged and oil prices soared.

Biden plans a televised address on Thursday.

In a statement, Trudeau said a meeting of G7 partners would be held today to “collectively respond to these reckless and dangerous acts, including by imposing significant sanctions in addition to those already announced.”
