A statue that depicts the late Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein walking near his Liverpool record store been granted planning permission by that city.

Epstein, who is often referred to as the fifth Beatle, discovered the band in 1961 after watching them play the Cavern Club.

He also managed singer Cila Black and Gerry and Pacemakers and was gay, prompting John Lennon to writer “Hey, You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away.”

Sir Paul McCartney says he’s delighted to see the plans move forward..

Epstein died in 1967 at the age of 32 from an accidental overdose of a sedative.  His death is is largely seen as the beginning of the end for the Beatles who split up three years later.
