Canada has won gold in the women’s team pursuit speedskating competition at the Beijing Olympics.

Valerie Maltais, Ivanie Blondin and Isabelle Weidemann beat Japan in the long-track event at the Ice Ribbon.

It’s Weidemann’s third medal at these Games. She won silver in the 5,000 metres and bronze in the 3,000.

The Canadians, who beat the Netherlands in the semifinal, finished in an Olympic record time of two minutes 53.44 seconds. Japan was 11.03 seconds behind.

Canadian snowboarder Max Parrot is taking home the bronze medal in men’s big air at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Parrot won the slopestyle gold a week ago, and led the field in qualifying for the big air event.

Interestingly, Canada has more bronze medals at the Beijing Olympics than any other nation at 11.

Overall, Canada is tied with the United States for medals at 17.
