Now to Ottawa, where the federal New Democrats are calling on the U.S. ambassador to Canada to testify before the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee regarding the anti-vaccine mandate protest and occupation in Ottawa.

Committee members are scheduled to meet Thursday and would need unanimous consent of all parties to issue an invitation to Ambassador David Cohen.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says American funding of the nearly two-week-old siege of downtown Ottawa is an attack on Canada’s democracy.

A significant amount of the $10-million in donations to the demonstration have come from American donors.

“You have this political intervention by a political camp from one country into that of another. You start to see the kind of transnational networks that compose the modern far right,” explained Portland State University Professor Alexander Ross to CTV News.

Protesters in Ottawa have been warned by police that if they continue blocking streets, they could be charged with mischief to property, have their vehicles seized, and risk a criminal record that could bar them from travel to the United States.

And in Windsor, the Ambassador Bridge is still blocked by protesters preventing traffic from coming into Canada from the U.S.

The blockades and delays could result in higher food prices and more spoilage as trucks are diverted to other crossings.
