Healthcare workers on Toronto’s hospital row are reacting with concern over a request for them not to wear their regular uniforms or scrubs while a truckers protest is going on up the street at Queen’s Park this weekend.
A memo sent to hospital workers also advises that “out of an abundance of caution” staff at hospitals including Women’s College, Mt Sinai and Sick Kids should avoid the downtown core this weekend if they are not working.
Staff at Women’s College have also been told the hospital’s COVID-19 assessment centre will close on Saturday, along with a nearby family practice and urgent care clinic.
Nikki Skillen is an ICU Nurse and questions why there is a concern from Toronto Police that protesters might harrass them. Police have yet to make that clear, but are expected to provide an update Friday as they prepare for Saturday’s demonstration.
The protest is said to be connected to the ongoing Ottawa truckers protest against COVID vaccine mandates.
They have said they plan to shut down some roads to ensure nobody blocks access to nearby hospitals.
