On second thought, forget it.
Premier Francois Legault says he will not follow through on a proposed tax on the unvaccinated.
”I understand that this divides Quebecers and right now we need to build bridges,” explains Legault.
”My role is to try to bring Quebecers together to stay united as a people.”
Legault denies he’s backing down to demands by organizers of a protest planned for Thursday in Quebec City.
He says he had already starting having discussions ”last week” about doing away with the idea.
When Legault announced the tax last month, he said he wanted it to be ”significant,” because the unvaccinated were disproportionately represented in the health system.
Instead the premier says the government will use different measures to try to persuade Quebecers to roll up their sleeves.
