In the end, Toronto received just under 30 centimetres (29.2) of snow and most of that came down in a hurry Monday morning during the blizzard – a blizzard that forced the temporary closure of both the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway.

Now there’s an extraordinary clean up effort underway, which includes a 72 hour period where there is no parking allowed on designated snow routes.

“It allows us to do something that we have to do, because Mother Nature has been doubly uncooperative, that we got this snow dump to begin with, and then the temperatures are projected to be cold for the next week or ten days, because normally we can count on some of this snow, once it’s plowed, to actually melt and in this case, we have to remove the snow and that means we have to have special provisions to prohibit parking on major arterial roads and allow us to tow cars that are just left there,” Mayor John Tory explained.

The mayor says vehicles in snow routes will be towed to areas that are nearby.

During the height of the blizzard,Toronto Police said there were 250 calls for service that were weather related.

Even though it’s over, the winter blast is continuing to cause transportation disruptions.

OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt calls it an Ontario storm hangover and he’s asking people to stay home.

“We are still dealing with the aftermath of yesterday,” Sergeant Schmidt explained Tuesday morning while monitoring the 401, “Trucks are still stuck, they’ve been waiting there overnight.”

You can expect delays, cancellations and service reductions on GO Transit.

“If you’re an essential worker, or you really need to get to an appointment or something, you’ll be able to consistently depend on all of your lines. So all 7 lines will run a consistent amount of service. It’ll just be spread out a little bit,” Aikens explained on Tuesday morning.

She also says UP Express service will be hourly rather than half hourly.

As for the TTC, spokesperson Stuart Green said early on Tuesday morning, there are still between 300 and 400 buses stuck on the streets.

And it’s a snow day for students who attend schools in the Toronto District School Board as well as students who attend Halton Region catholic and public schools.

Reopening of schools will be put off again, and unlike Monday, there will be no remote learning for TDSB and Halton Region students.

As for other school boards in the GTA, learning will be conducted remotely on Tuesday.

As for what will happen on Wednesday, word from the TDSB a decision will be made on Tuesday.
