Prince Andrew has been stripped of military roles and royal patronages amid a sex assault lawsuit.

The decision by the British royal family comes a day after a federal judge in New York allowed a sexual abuse case against him to go ahead.

While Andrew had already been largely banished from public life, the palace says in a statement that the 61-year-old will not undertake any public duties as he defends this case as a private citizen.

The Palace issued the statement after more than 150 navy and army veterans wrote to the Queen asking her to strip Andrew of all his military ranks and titles.

He’s been accused by Virginia Giuffre of raping her when she was a teenager — a charge he denies — during a period in which he was friendly with the late financier and convicted sexual predator, Jeffrey Epstein.
