She was known as the “Godmother” of the Naples Mafia.
Back on August 4th 1955, Assunta Maresca, then 20-years old and six months pregnant, made her bones in broad daylight when she shot and killed the man she suspected was behind the the assassination of her husband.
She was a former teenage beauty queen known as “Pupetta,” or “Little Doll.” She was also the daughter of a leading member of the Neapolitan crime syndicate.
She was sentenced to 18-years for the shooting but was released after serveing 10-years.
“Padrina” Assunta Maresca has died at her home in Italy at the age of 86. No cause was given.
