Beloved actress, comedian and American icon Betty White has died just weeks shy of her milestone 100th birthday on January 17th.
A TV trailblazer, Betty had the longest running career for any woman in TV starring in multiple shows over the past eight decades, starting back in 1939.
She’s perhaps most famous for her lead role as Rose Nylund in The Golden Girls which ran from 1985 to 1992.
Betty got her start in radio in the ’40s and eventually got her own radio program.
In 1949, she began working on a TV variety show called Hollywood on Television before many more TV roles.
But her breakout comedic role came in 1973 when she played Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Betty White died of natural causes this morning at her home.
She was 99.
Just weeks ago, it was announced she would celebrate her milestone birthday January 17th with fans invited to a special movie event called Betty White: 100 Years Young — A Birthday Celebration. It followed White in her day-to-day life, including behind-the-scenes on sets, working with her office staff, entertaining at home, lending her voice as an animal advocate and taking viewers to her actual birthday party. In a statement at the time, White commented “Who doesn’t love a party? This one is gonna be GREAT!”
