ONTARIO EXTENDING SENIORS HOME SAFETY TAX CREDIT

The Ford government’s announced the Seniors’ Home Safety Tax Credit is being extended by one year to 2022 to help seniors stay in their homes longer.
The tax credit’s a refundable credit worth 25% of up to $10,000 per-household in eligible expenses, to a maximum credit of $2,500.
It’s available to seniors or those who live with senior relatives regardless of their incomes and whether they owe any tax.
To claim the credit, they’re reminded to keep receipts from suppliers and contractors.
Eligible renos include, installing grab bars and related reinforcements in bathrooms, wheelchair ramps, stair lifts and elevators, light fixtures in the home the home and exterior entrances, automatic garage door openers and certain other renovations to allow first-floor occupancy or a secondary suite for a senior.
”We know that seniors would prefer to stay in their homes, where they are the most comfortable,” said Finance Minister Peter Bethlanfalvy.
”That’s why we are pleased to bring forward this plan to give them extra time to benefit from this tax credit.”
