The province is being encouraged to expand the use of rapid antigen tests, specifically in voluntary screening for those exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.
The chair of the science table, Dr. Peter Yuni, is urging testing at regular intervals in settings where there is a moderate risk of transmission, such as schools and workplaces, and adds, they are particularly important because of the number of students less than 12 years of age who are not fully vaccinated in Ontario.
The recommendation is that unvaccinated and incompletely vaccinated people be tested once per week and 2 to 3 times per week if case rates rise dramatically.
Rapid tests can be purchased and performed at pharmacies for up to $40-dollars per test. On the open market, they range from $10.00 to $16.00.
A number of experts have urged the government to make the test free but so far there is no word from the Ford Government to that.
