The U.S. Coast Guard made a daring rescue attempt at the edge of Niagara Falls Wednesday afternoon. A rescue helicopter dropped a diver to pull a body out of a car that entered the rapids just 50 yards from the edge of the falls.

New York State police say a woman in her late 60’s has been pronounced dead.

Police say they’ve never responded to a car in the water this close to the edge of the falls and it remains in the water on the American side.

Police are investigation how the woman ended up in the location.
