CANADA JOINS DIPLOMATIC BOYCOTT OF BEIJING WINTER OLYMPICS

Saying the government is ”extremely concerned” by ”repeated human rights violations carried out by the Chinese government,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced no federal officials will attend the February games.
Trudeau says Canada will show its displeasure by withholding delegates that would normally go to events such as the opening and closing ceremonies.
Asked he anticipates any blowback from Beijing, the prime minister says ”this should not comes as a surprise” to the communist regime.
”For months, we have been coordinating and discussing the issue with our allies,” Trudeau added.
China has vowed to respond with ”firm countermeasures.”
Canada joins the U.S., U.K. and Australia in the diplomatic boycott.
Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly is going to a G-7 meeting in the U.K. this weekend when she says she’ll press other holdouts, including France and Germany, to join the boycott.
