The folks at Merriam-Webster have chosen “Vaccine” as their 2021 word of the year.
Peter Sokolowski, the dictionary company’s editor at large, tells The Associated Press that lookups for the word “vaccine” increased 601% this year over last.
The selection follows “vax” as word of the year by the people who publish the Oxford English Dictionary.
Last year Merriam-Webster named “pandemic” as tops in lookups on its online site last year.
